Say no to animals in circuses. Circuses justify the continued use of animals by continued public attendance. So, please, vote with your feet! If consumers avoid circuses with animals and opt for animal-free circuses, circus operators will be forced to change their practices.

  • Don’t attend circuses that use animals in their shows.
  • Encourage friends, family and colleagues to not attend animal circuses.
  • Watch for signs of cruelty and report cruelty to the RSPCA. Ph: 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625).
  • Write a letter to the editor of your local or metropolitan paper voicing your outrage when an animal circus comes to your town.

Animal circuses would not have an audience if city and shire councils banned them from performing on council-owned property. Circus operators require a permit from councils to perform, and many councils across the country have exercised their authority to refuse to issue these permits. Let your council know that you do not support the animal circus coming to your town.

  • Write to your local city or shire council members requesting a ban on animal circuses performing on council-owned property.
  • Write to local venues that host animal circuses voicing your outrage at their support of such ‘entertainment’.

While exotic animals remain in circuses, any improvement in their welfare, such as the adoption of national standards, is welcomed.
